Chapter 63: "Hereditary"

In which we yell at our televisions in frustration again.

CW: Mental illness, poor representation of mental illness, vilifying queer characters, vigilantism, violence, addiction, murder, serial killings, corpses, discussions of hauntings, white privilege.

This was a frustrating episode, not least because we’re still somehow dealing with Cheryl’s compulsion to keep her brother’s dead body in the family chapel and force everyone around her to simply deal with it. Seriously, it’s gotten gross and is almost impossible to watch. Meanwhile, Archie’s being made into a fully-fleshed white savior and Batman for kids who honestly could use someone like Mrs. Weiss to help them instead. It’s not all bad though; Jughead is still fascinating, and Cole Sprouse is giving some great performances in his hostile prep school environment. And Betty doesn’t know just what Charles is hiding…and might not ever know at this rate. The bad outweighs the good in this one, and it’s become a bit of a slog to sit through the show. Grab a chair and join a quick breathing circle as we try to rinse out the bad memories of this episode on The Doghouse.
